How this site makes money
The Safe Pantry is free to read. We don’t run display ads, and we don’t sell your data. We earn money one way: affiliate commissions.
When we recommend a product, the link usually goes to a retailer — Amazon, the brand’s own store, or another shop. If you click that link and buy something, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. Typically 1–10%. The price you pay is the same as if you’d gone to the retailer directly.
We participate in affiliate programs run directly by brands and through affiliate networks, including Skimlinks, which automatically turns some of our links to retailers into affiliate links. We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
What this means for our recommendations
We score every product on the same 5-point scale, and we publish how that scale works. A product’s affiliate commission has no bearing on its score. Products we can’t earn from get scored and recommended the same way as products we can.
Some things we do on purpose because of this:
- We tell you when the cheaper option is fine
- We recommend products from which we earn nothing when they’re the right answer
- We say when we don’t know
- We score popular products low when they deserve it, even though a low score means fewer clicks
If you ever think a recommendation looks like it was driven by commission rather than merit, email us and tell us. We’d rather hear it.
Sponsored content
As of now, we don’t publish sponsored articles or accept payment for reviews. If that ever changes, the article will say so clearly at the top, and the product will still get scored on our scale.
Free products
Occasionally a brand may send us a product to evaluate. If a review is based on a product we received for free, we’ll say so in that review. Receiving a free product does not guarantee a positive score, or any review at all.
